Abusuapanin Oduro Benefo Remembered

Saturday, June 18, 2005 was a sad day for Okyeman Cultural Association of Toronto as we celebrated the life and death of our Abusuapanin Daniel Oduro Benefo. The celebration started just after the viewing at Newediuk Funeral Home on Kipling Avenue where all customary rites were performed.

It was around 10:30 p.m. when the function began with Okyeame Kwaku Darko reviewing the program of activities for the night. It was followed by prayers by an elder from the Church of Pentecost. Stephen Brefo Birikorang , his younger brother read the biography followed by his son, Bright Oduro Benefo and Kwesi Peter on behalf of the widow, Beatrice Obeaa Oduro Benefo.

The Venue, 90 Westwood Banquet Hall was packed with sympatizers as Abusuapanin Alex Barning thanked everyone for their support in this sad time of Okyeman family. Okyeman Cultural troupe and Southern Volta Association of Canada provided cultural drumming while Kwesi Adjei was the DJ for the night. Sunset Video provided video coverage with Okyeman's own videographer Kwabena Obeng capturing every moment. Paa Willie was the photographer for the night.

Indeed the ocassion was solemn and came to a close around 4:00 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 22 the body was flown to Ghana for burial at his home town Akyem Pramkese on Saturday, June 25.
