To encourage goodwill and understanding between Akyems and Canadians
by participating in cultural, social and educational programmes.
To co-operate with other groups and organizations having similar
aims and objectives.
To mediate in internal differences between Akyems so as to prevent
actions leading to legal settlements.
ARTICLE 4: MEMBERSHIP
Full membership is open to any person whose mother and father
come from any of the three Akyem traditional areas, regardless
of where the person was born or socialized, OR
Any person whose mother comes from any of the three Akyem traditional
areas, regardless of his or her place of birth or socialization,
OR
Any person whose father alone comes from any of the three Akyem
traditional areas, regardless of his or her place of birth or
socialization, OR
Any person who does not come from any of the three Akyem traditional
areas, but who is a citizen of Ghana, provided the person shows
a clear intention to become a member on genuine affirmation of
faith, and support of the Association.
- The person shall be introduced by two members of the Association,
AND
- The acceptance of such a person shall be voted upon by members
at a General Meeting.
Associate membership may be granted to non-Akyems or non-Ghanaian
upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee on condition
that such membership will not be detrimental to the Association
ARTICLE 5: OFFICERS
The running of the Association shall be vested in the Executive
Committee.
The Executive of the Association shall be the President, Vice
President, Deputy Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary,
Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Public Relations Officer and Assistant
Public Relations Officer.
The Executive may appoint Interim Committees to assist in special
duties when desired.
ARTICLE 6: TERMS
OF OFFICE
The Executive of the Association shall be elected at the Annual
General Meeting in December to serve for a term of two years.
The new administration shall assume office on the first day
of January, the New Year.
No member shall hold more than two offices at a time, unless
it is urgently necessary and approval of such appointment is given
at the general meeting.
Officers shall hold offices during period of good behaviour
and competency.
- An Officer shall be removed from office for misconduct or
incompetency by a majority vote of members present and entitled
to vote at a meeting of which notice to transact such business
have been circulated to all members.
Any officer whose term is expired may be elected for term of
office if members so desire.
